Infectious diseases in pregnancy screening program: laboratory handbook

Public health England has issued new guidance for laboratories handling samples for the infectious diseases in pregnancy screening program.

The aim of the handbook is to guide screening laboratory teams that process specimens for the IDPS Programme and highlight the requirements for screening. It is linked to the wider programme standards and service specifications and will be of relevance to service providers, commissioners and those responsible for quality assurance in the operational delivery of the screening pathway.

The handbook has been cross-referenced to International Standards Organisation ISO 15189 ‘Medical laboratories – requirements for quality and competence’, to reduce duplication of effort and resources for laboratory quality assurance.

The handbook can be accessed here.
