NIAID
recently announced a research funding opportunity to develop and/or produce
diagnostics to quickly detect the key bacteria responsible for
antibacterial-resistant infections in hospital settings. The request for
applications (RFA) will support diagnostics research related to one or more of
the following types of bacteria: Klebsiella
pneumonia, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter species, and
extra-intestinal pathogenic Eschericihia coli. NIAID expects to fund 10-15
awards for a total of up to $12 million in 2015, and the maximum length of each
award is 5 years.
